Ruger 10/22 build thread
So, I just picked up my 10/22 today and now I'm surfing the web looking at parts. There is a shit ton to choose from and I'm sure a great deal of it isn't that great. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one of the OD green hogue stocks tonight. I'm currently looking at barrels. I'd like some ideas as to what brands are qualities and the best places regarding price to purchase them. If you know of something cool short of a full out conversion, hit me with it. I need some ideas as to what direction to take this. I might even be open to other stocks. Whatcha guys got?

Re: Ruger 10/22 build thread
I like Hogue stocks, reguardless of what type of 10/22 Im building. I like a comfortable stock and Hogue is just that. I send my bolts out to get pinned and machined here:http://www.ct-precision.com/ so my Rugers will digest just about any ammo I throw at them. I like Green Mountain barrels as well. I usually look on auction web sites as well as some rimfire sites for the best deals.

For the barrel I went with PWS T3 from
http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.m ... y_Code=R1A
Love it. Shoots ever bit as good as the Ruger target model. Only does side to it is will not shoot stingers.

Re: Ruger 10/22 build thread
I see a lot going on with the tactical solutions stuff as well. The green mountain stuff seems very competitively priced. That leads me to believe its not that great. Most of the time, you get what you pay for. So much to choose from. Why would someone need a compensator on a 22?

Re: Ruger 10/22 build thread
Not necessarily, I had a very cheap Butler Creek barrel that was as accurate if not more accurate than anything I've ever owned. Downfall was the weight. It weighed probably more than your entire 10/22 weighs now total. Just the barrel. It made my 10/22 weigh as much as my full wood stock 7mm Mauser...haha

Re: Ruger 10/22 build thread
You're wrong. Green Mountain makes some of the best 10/22 barrels out there, period, and has done so for many years. Go ahead and waste your money on a Kidd or TacSol barrel. It's soooo worth it because they cost more.

I never said that was always the case. I was more or less asking. Remember the old saying? You get what you pay for... At least when it comes to car parts it is.

This ain't car parts, and generalisms are not wisdom.
I have built over 2 doz 10/22's using parts from many different suppliers & know a little bit about the subject.

Re: Ruger 10/22 build thread
I have to agree that T3 barrel I have at the time was 75 less than tac sol barrel and lighter. It shoots better. I would have used the green mt or ER Shaw but didn't want the weight.Wyldman wrote:This ain't car parts, and generalisms are not wisdom.

But in the end it's you gun and build. That's the fun part is you get just want you want.

If the rifle shoots .5 MOA then keep that as is.
Unless you have a certain desire to add dodads to the rifle, I tend to leave factory alone.

Re: Ruger 10/22 build thread
The original synthetic stock feels so cheap compared to my remington 597. The damn thing sounds hollow when you knock on it. I def want a diff barrel and stock. That's prolly as far as I'll take it right now.

Re: Ruger 10/22 build thread
For barrel on my custom builds
Granted most are bolt gun and a few AR I use
Shilen and PAC-NOR barrels
I know that Shilen sells a 10-22 barrel
GM makes a fine barrel.

The factory DSP and target model stocks are SOOOO much nicer than the standard stocks...1fastmach1 wrote:The original synthetic stock feels so cheap compared to my remington 597.
