Ithaca Auto/Burglar

Post by Mexican Kerry » Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:17 am

Not a slide action, but y'all didn't make a section for the side-by-each scatterguns. My dad just picked this bad boy up, built in the '20s, figured I'd throw up a couple pics (courtesy of him). Anybody have one of these, or any other purpose-built "defence" shotguns from the era?

No MK is in Canada

Totally different laws

Here it is a C&R but I think it is still a NFA as a AOW (5.00 stamp)

Yeah, from what I understand (could be wrong), the old laws that went into effect were pretty strict on these. My dad's been looking into the history of them , and your gov't apparently put a 200 dollar fee on registering them when they were being made, I assume to discourage people from owning them. Not sure why, but there usually isn't a whole lot of commom sense put into most gun laws (no matter where you are). As a result, they seem pretty hard to come by these days. He's found a new passion for these defence shotguns, is also looking for an old H&R Handigun. Apparently a lot of these "defense" type shotguns made their way into Canada back in the day, because the bottom dropped out of the US market after the stricter laws were put into place.

Interesting side note: these were marketed to people as a vehicle defense gun because of hop-ons on the running boards of the cars of the day. Makes me wish my Model A was up and running!
