Rem. 870 lubrication

Post by kyswede » Mon Sep 08, 2014 9:59 pm

Wondering what type of lubrication people use on an 870 bolt, carrier, action bars, and trigger group.

Rem. 870 lubrication

Post by PDM » Sun Mar 29, 2015 4:19 pm

Oil of any kind is useless. It disappears after just a few shots, and you can forget it doing any good after it gets hot.

Plain old high temp bearing grease is the only thing that can take the heat and stay where you put it.

Actually, I have close to 100k rounds through my 870 and I can't remember ever giving it any lube at all.

Unless you can pump 500 rounds a minute and reload fast enough, the lube on an 870 will never get hot enough to dissipate on the metal to metal contacts.
Doesn't take much but a little goes a long way.
Still using my fathers (from 1956 I believe) Wingmaster and it is lubed after every cleaning.
