Post by Bama » Sun Nov 25, 2012 2:19 pm

Step-dad has been looking for a Model 36 .38 special snub nose. Found one at the gun show today, need help finding a little more info as its not your normal model 36 I believe. Regardless got a GREAT deal on it....

Side plate is matte black finish.

I really want to think its the NYPD Detective variant with only about 500 made, but my hopes could be high.

That doesn't look like a factory bob job to me, but I'm no expert.

Is there a dash and number after the model number (e.g. 36-2), and what's the serial number (you can leave off the last couple of digits, if you like).

Nice gun, BTW. I love J-frame Smiths.

I'd go $200 and a used bag of skittles. Only the greens and purples left.

$201.00 & I'll throw in the yellows, (those yellow ones taste funny to me anyway) and a stick of fresh, unused, chewing gum, plus two left over pieces of turkey!

No idea if it's special or not, but he'd better never sell it! Vintage Smiths are going up in value every year. I'd rather take that over a lousy Airweight any day of the week. Only modification I could think of would be a Tyler T-Grip insert.
