Only markings are posted and a serial # on the trigger guard. I'm thinking. 32 s&w, .38 is loose in the cylinder. It's pretty worn out, but cosmeticly decent. Any ideas on approximate value?

Re: Opinions
My uncle had one of those in .38 S&W (NOT compatible with .38 Spl!). If it is .38 S&W, as I suspect, cartridges are going to be a bitch to find as they haven't been actively produced in decades.
It looks like a copy of S&W, which is what my uncle's was, with the S&W rollmark on the rear of the frame.
I have no idea as to it's value. If it is an S&W, it might be worth quite a bit, if it's a copy by High Standard, for instance, maybe not so much. I've never heard of the U.S Revolver Co. before.
I'll bet Dave will know something....

Re: Opinions
Second up, I'm thinking is a starter pistol. .22lr in the pic, I think a .22 short would even stick out. Absolutely no markings at all and doesn't lock up for shit...

Re: Opinions
If a .38 is loose in the cylinder, how would a smaller caliber be correct? Wouldn't that just be even more loose?

Re: Opinions
Doesn't seem like they made them in anything bigger than .38 from what I can find

Re: Opinions
Don't forget 38 s&w and 38 Special are actually .36. So bear that in mind if a 38 loose in the cylinder.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Re: Opinions
Just drop a 38 special in there and pull the trigger, what's the worst that can happen?
BTW: Be sure get a video of it.

.38 bigger than .32Niceguy wrote:I have a .38 S&W round and it's pretty loose in the cylinder. Doesn't fall through but it's close. That's why I'm thinking maybe .32 S&W.

You tried a 38 S&W or a 38 S&W Special?Niceguy wrote:I have a .38 S&W round and it's pretty loose in the cylinder. Doesn't fall through but it's close. That's why I'm thinking maybe .32 S&W.
38 S&W
Bullet diameter .361 in (9.2 mm)
Neck diameter .3855 in (9.79 mm)
Base diameter .3865 in (9.82 mm)
Rim diameter .440 in (11.2 mm)
Rim thickness .055 in (1.4 mm)
Case length .775 in (19.7 mm)
Overall length 1.240 in (31.5 mm)
38 S&W Special
Case type Rimmed, straight
Bullet diameter .357 in (9.1 mm)
Neck diameter .379 in (9.6 mm)
Base diameter .379 in (9.6 mm)
Rim diameter .44 in (11 mm)
Rim thickness .058 in (1.5 mm)
Case length 1.155 in (29.3 mm)
Overall length 1.55 in (39 mm)
Primer type Small pistol
According to the case dia numbers 38 S&W Special would be loose in a 38 S&W cylinder. Although the 38 special's length would probably keep you from closing the cylinder.

Re: Opinions
Check out the case dia of the 38LC.
38 S&W Special would be loose in a 38LC cylinder as well.
But there the issue of length to contend with
38 Short Colt
Bullet diameter .375 for original heeled bullets, .358 for some modern loads
Neck diameter .379 in (9.6 mm)
Base diameter .379 in (9.6 mm)
Rim diameter .445 in (11.3 mm)
Rim thickness .060 in (1.5 mm)
Case length .765 in (19.4 mm)
38 Long Colt
Bullet diameter .361 in (9.2 mm)
Neck diameter .381 in (9.7 mm)
Base diameter .381 in (9.7 mm)
Rim diameter .445 in (11.3 mm)
Rim thickness .060 in (1.5 mm)
Case length 1.031 in (26.2 mm)
