New Springfield
Not sure if I ever mentioned this before, but I like Springfield pistols! Bought this old NM serialed Defender a while ago, it finally showed up in the mail. Its from the late 80's (iirc, not 100% sure).
Its had some parts changing done to it, so I'm gonna do some more. Want to make it into a M-45 clone, or at least a reasonable facsimile.
Here's a pic of the real thing:
Plans to change rear sight, grip safety, mainspring housing, ambi safety, barrel bushing, mag release, guide rod/recoil spring plug, and do a complete spring swap.

Very nice. I'm getting more and more into 1911's.

Re: New Springfield
Started parts-changing today. Ditched the guide rod, rubber coated msh, ambi safety, grip safety, mag release so far. Other than some finish wear in one spot on the slide and on the frame from the ambi safety, this pistol seems to be in really nice condition.
For now:
Front strap is serrated. I know that checkering is the hotness these days, but I like this. Oh well, its getting covered up again. Ugly as sin, but the Pachmayrs work well for me.
Guide rod gone, gonna use it for another project. Who wants to carry an allan key around anyway?
Retaining barrel bushing for now, don't have a spare that fits better. On the to-do list.
Not sure if I should go all out with the MEU clone. I know its not going to be "authentic" because there are some parts I prefer, but this pistol might be too nice to start stamping serial numbers all over the place (real ones have last 4 digits stamped on all major components).
Kinda why I bought it, but not sure. Hard to undo that kind of thing if I change my mind.
On the other hand, if I leave it as is, its basically the same as my mil spec.
So, there's a few things I still want to do for sure:
barrel bushing
finish fitting thumb safety or get replacement extended unit from Wilson
maybe stamp slide etc with serial number
replace temporary msh with lanyard loop unit
find replacement rear sight (had one til recently but sold it to some dude)
trigger job, this one reluctantly breaks at around 6 lbs. Weird because it has a Wilson trigger and aftermarket hammer etc installed. Maybe the guy who did it was as bad as me!

Baller. 1911's are addictive. I need to forget I own any as when I think about them I always search fora nother to buy!
That looks good. I'm not a fan of the LOOKS of those grips though, I think they are horrible looking grips. Most feel good though cause they are common and popular. I like the wood panel look myself.
