1911 safety plunger spring issue

Post by Toecutter1978 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 5:34 pm

So I changed out the springs in my RIA 1911 GI a few months ago, used a complete Wilson Combat spring kit. Now the safety is extremely stiff, and difficult to move. What can I do to loosen it up to make it operate smoother?

I have shot it a few times since the springs replacement, around 600-650 rounds.

After some research, removed the plunger/spring to make sure it's not the safety binding. Smooth as butter without it installed.

After some other reading, is it possible that the spring is too long? A few have said they had to cut 2 coils off to get it to operate properly. I'll do that after I've ran 1200 rounds through it. It's so stiff that I cannot operate the safety with the side of my thumb, it had to be the full finger pushing down or up.

That is what I said

I wish I could put the old one back in. That was one spring that either rolled off the towel, beamed up by aliens, or had to enter the witness protection system because I haven't seen it.
