One of My Holy Grail Pistols

Post by Mexican Kerry » Mon Apr 21, 2014 10:15 pm

Just sealed the deal on a new Colt yesterday. Presentation grade with royal blue finish, 25% engraving, and pre ban elephant ivory stocks. Never fired, cycled, or torn down. Comes in velvet lined display box. Never been a big fan of commemorative type pistols, but I liked these since they came out in 2009 and never figured I'd get my hands on one. They made a little over 200 of them and I lucked out and got it (number 59) for less than they retailed when they came out.

Teaser pics in case anyone's interested.

I know a lot of folks would say it was a waste of money to buy a pistol that I'll never use. But I have one I use regularly, and to me this is a work of art. Some people buy paintings.

Bomar sight and fde rattle can?

Nice for sure, but not sure I could sell Grampa's Win '94 to pay for it.

Congrats though!

Good looking gun.

My grandpa was a piece of work. He probably stole the rifle. No sentimental attachment from anything he ever owned. He was a bastard til the day he died. That rifle was one of the only things he ever gave me, and I will miss it as much as I miss him.

In case you think that sounds harsh, sometime i'll tell his life story. Then you'd understand.

I usually do not care for engraving, but that pistol is SWEET as Tupelo honey.

I've tried to do a rubbing of it a couple times, I can't get anything crisp and clear. Any suggestions?

Although you may want to try something like this, just googled and it came up.

Penical and tracing paper is what the way I was showed.
But the Master gunsmith that taught me was not a engraver.

How about some macro jpegs?

MC don't make a big deal of it.

Love the finish. I have a set of Ivory grips myself but have not found a 1911 that I felt would be worthy of them. Beautiful pistol. Enjoy
I was only going to build one...
