Want another 1911

Post by Toecutter1978 » Tue Apr 08, 2014 6:36 pm

So I have been itching for a 1911. I have a Springfield 1911A1, but its nickel finish and too bling for me, especially to EDC. I wish I could pick up a Colt, but that is out of my price range. I have been thinking of one of those Remington's. I looked at one over at Lotus a few days ago, but could did not pull the trigger on it. I'm not looking for a full on custom, production model is fine by me. I'm thinking the tactical. Comments :?:

The budget for this has to be under 600 at the most. That really puts a crunch on choices. I don't want to buy one that can not be upgraded as time goes on.

Now is it true the RIA is made with the same tooling that produced the 1911's used during WWII? If so, that's what I am really going for. A no trills, simple platform.

I have a Remington r1 I will sell you. I've shot about two mags through it and have it great reviews for what it is. Fit and finish are top notch. $550 and it's yours. All box and stuff like new.

Don't know about that but the tactical has Novak sights, skeletionized trigger, full length stainless guide rod, black rubber grips that felt better than the standard wood. This is my 1st 1911 but I like it. Wife & daughter both shoot it well. Lmk if you want to meet up at tg&g one day to try it out.

The Remington mike has should be a good pistol also. Sounds like a good price. I was looking at Remington's but decided on the RIA.

I have been looking at the Para expert carry for some reason. I don't really need it.

Looks like a winner. Not sure if I personally would like the wrap around grip but I've never tried one. This is the type I have.

Only issue I have with mine is I bought a Chip McCormick mag as an extra & sometimes it won't chamber the last round. Probably operator error.

Nope less than that asking price. Ok so I am really late for my appointment at UofL today, but luck was on my side and the guy I was supposed to meet called and he asked to reschedule for tomorrow which worked out. I headed over to TG&G. I have to say for a sidearm I just purchased today I am extremely impressed.

I think the RIA pistols are good for the price. I've got two and never had an issue with either. But they were never built using Colt's tooling. Colt only ever shared their stuff with Argentina when they helped set up manufacturing for their Sistema plant, and when they agreed to help Norway build their goofy version of the 1911.

RIA are made in the Philippines, not Argentina I thought.

He didn't say RIA's were made in Argentina. He said Colt shared their tooling with Argentina. It was a common misconception that RIA's were built using old Colt tooling.

The RIA's I've owned have been built in the Philippines. Like you, I think they all have been.

Yeah, it's like most things on the interwebs, some truth, some false. I have read different aspects of it being Colt tooling, and then even stolen equipment from the Chinese sold to the the Philippines.

Colt never actually sold their old tooling to anyone. They shared their specs with Argentina for the sistema factory, and supervised the setup. All the tooling actually came out of Germany I believe.

Regardless, the cast RIA pistols are pretty good for their price. Both mine are same as when they came out of the boxes, but they fit the bill for a basic, traditional styled 1911.
