Mag issue with RIA.

Post by irishrob » Mon Feb 24, 2014 5:52 pm

Bought a Rock Island Tactical today. Only came with 1 mag so I picked up a Chip McCormick Power mag. Pistol operates properly with the stock mag but when I put in the Chip McCormick, the slide will lock back but I can't get the slide to release unless I drop the mag. This is my 1st 1911 so any help would be appreciated.

My guess would be that the mag spring is stiffer on the McCormick mag. With it empty, and that mag in the gun, lock the slide back and look inside to make sure the slide release isn't hanging on anything

That must be the issue. I tried the mag with a round in it & the slide released just fine. Thanks.

On my old RIA it didn't like chip mags. It liked Kimber tac and wilson

So, it locks on an empty mag but not with a loaded one? That's what it's supposed to do.

Locks open with both mags like its suppose to. Won't allow the slide to close with the empty chip McCormick mag in it. Tried with the mag full & it works ok that way. as ssracer stated the Spring is probally stiffer than the factory mag
