Post by BK Meyers » Sun Dec 29, 2013 9:27 am

Looked at a used Springfield Armory Mil-Spec at a local shop yesterday. I could swear I saw that the pistol was made in Brazil??!!! Are any of the SA models not USA-made??

God made man.
Samuel Colt made all men equal.
John M. Browning and the 1911 made some men more equal than others.

The Compact Loaded that I have been carrying since 2000 says FI BRAZIL. I have always thought was made in Brazil. Serial no begins with a LW

Here the answer some guy got by calling Springfield on a 1911 forum. There is no simple single yes or no answer, some yes, some no, some a mix.

BTW: The XD line is made in Croatia.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

SA 1911's frames and slides are ALL made in Brazil, by Imbel. Then some of them are shipped to SA here in 'Merica and are finished off with enough work that they can be labeled 'made in USA' by way of Geneseo, Il.

XD's are simply imported by SA from Croatia. The XD was initially a gun called the HS2000, SA wanted a plastic gun to compete with Blocks and chose this one to put their name on and charged another $250 for the privilege.

It's my understanding (could be wrong) the 1911's with serial # prefix NM are assembled/fitted here in the US.

NM prefixed serial numbers are more "made in America" than the others.

But it's just as much "American made" as a Ford Truck. Just because the parts are all sent here and assembled here doesn't mean it's "American made".

You can thank Bill Clinton and NAFTA for that shit.
Allthough it is a small % that is imported.

yep as American made as a Glock! Most of the .45 barrels are two piece welded together. To see if you have a welded barrel just look at the feed ramp of the barrel for the weld line.

Its true. Don't let it dissuade you though, they are a first rate pistol. Springfield 1911's are hard to keep in stock, there's a reason.

I agree I love Springfields. Great pistols. Just because it's made out of country doesn't mean it's not good stuff.
