1911 trigger adjustment
I've notice when people replace the triggers in their 1911s, they seem to have a bit more slack or slop if you will. Basically the little bit of slack you experience when engaging the trigger. Some have more slop then others. I want to order a different trigger for my Sig and would like suggestions as to what trigger to use that might combat this problem. What can be done to eliminate this? Any suggestion would be fantastic. Thanks fellas.

Re: 1911 trigger adjustment
I'd drop it off with a competent gunsmith before I replaced the trigger if you're only looking for less slop and a cleaner break. If you're wanting a different look or feel then I'd look into replacing the trigger.

Re: 1911 trigger adjustment
And Cranky has much experience with 1911's, especially trigger jobs. I'll be taking my P938 to him very soon, being that it is an almost exact copy of the Colt 1908, which is very similar to the 1911.

Re: 1911 trigger adjustment
Cranky (or someone else knowledgeable about these things) may correct me, but you want a bit of pre travel in your trigger. It allows the grip safety to engage the trigger bow without contact with the sear. It may seem like "slop" but its there for a reason. I like a nice clean trigger with little play too, but I've never found any of my triggers hard to adapt to whether they are an old loose GI, an new entry level pistol, or a nicely tuned toy.
On the other hand, there's definitely something nice about a worked over 1911 trigger. My favorites for the range are two Springfields, they have Wilson triggers that break at 2 and 2.5 lbs. Maybe a bit light for a carry type pistol at least according to folks who tell me that.

Re: 1911 trigger adjustment
I figure people would give me the "take it to a competent gunsmith" comment. The thing is, swapping parts in and out isn't that hard to do. It's a simple as loosing and tightening bolt. Easy to do. I've already got the trigger in and it functions perfectly. I don't need a gunsmith to do it. Just needed some suggestions as to the slack in the trigger. If it's a necessary evil then so be it. It's not that hard to get use to. Just wondered it is was fixable. I've noticed some triggers have the little ears on them that can be adjusted to take out that slack. Anyone have any experience with them?

1911 trigger adjustment
That is completely irrelevant to this conversion. I don't need a gunsmith to charge for for something I can do myself.

Re: 1911 trigger adjustment
Inside joke. He wasn't being offensive.
Some of us have seen what happens when a less competent person tries to improve on a 1911 trigger. It's not good. Having said that, I'm glad yours turned out good. I'm not a fan of paying for things I can do myself, but I've never left a gunsmith thinking I'd wasted my money either.

DIY is fun. Also nice to know that a smith can take care of a parts pile if need be.

Re: 1911 trigger adjustment
I didn't intend to come off as a prick. Sorry about that. I enjoy wrenching on stuff. I've been building motors for several years so I figured what the hell, how hard can it be?
What happened to said fellow that didn't put it together correctly? He had a sweet ponytail?

That's pretty vague but it's cool. Just trying to get in on the joke.

Re: 1911 trigger adjustment
Wow that's not good at all. You would notice this pretty quick after it's assembled during a test fire though right. I've put about a box through mine since I did the work. It seems to run great and feels great except for the play in the trigger.guncrank1 wrote:
