taurus 1911 yay or nay?
Found a Taurus 1911 in 45 on armslist for $450... seems like the pistol is in decent shape... thinking about picking it up for a carry gun but I have no personal experience with their 1911s.... any thoughts or advice?

Re: taurus 1911 yay or nay?
I have one in 9mm that has been doing well since I changed out the cheap factory mags that failed everytime.
Not sure I could ever bet my life on a Taurus based on my experiences from years gone by... but I read they are getting better.
The main issue I read about with their 1911 is tha the ambi sa f2f ety is weak and lots of breakages reported. If you carry that piece replace that with a quality aftermarket part right away.

Whittakers had some X / factory recon models with Rails for around $369 so make sure it doesn't have an X at the end of serial number. I shot one it went bang every time. I thought it was bulky in my hand and the front rail made it heavy. They do have a lot of features for the money and great warranty.

Hell I have a Kimber that had the safety replaced 5 times or so under warranty so don't think it's just Taurus with those types of issues. I'd much rather pay to replace a part on a $500 Taurus than a Kimber that they want damn near twice that for.

Re: taurus 1911 yay or nay?
I've had 3 different models of the PT1911 and still own 2 of them. My PT1911B-1 (blue with rail and straight-8 sights) is my favorite of my 1911's to ring some steel with.
Both of mine are from 2007 and 2008. I have read where some owners were having issues with newer production units but mine have been rock solid.

Forgot to ask what all is included in the price?? From the factory the PT1911's come with 2 8-round magazines and a pretty nice case.CCRBUM wrote:Found a Taurus 1911 in 45 on armslist for $450... seems like the pistol is in decent shape... thinking about picking it up for a carry gun but I have no personal experience with their 1911s.... any thoughts or advice?

Re: taurus 1911 yay or nay?
If only one mag is included then try to get them down on their price. You'll spend $25-$30 on another mag, Taurus or aftermarket. My PT1911's have all run Taurus, Kimber, Chip McCormick, Wilson Combat 47D and 7-round surplus Colt mags with no problems.CCRBUM wrote:I believe the gun, case and one mag.BK Meyers wrote:Forgot to ask what all is included in the price?? In relation to magazines something I've noticed, especially with pawn shops, is that they will advertise what is known to have multiple mags from the factory but will list with only 1. I'm guessing they are pulling the extras to sell individually.

If you buy the gun, let me know. I will send you an extra brand new magazine from Mec Gar (made in ITaly) 8 round magazine for Free. I love these magazines and they work great.

Re: taurus 1911 yay or nay?
Only consistent problem I'm heard on the PT-1911 is that on the blued ones the bluing wears off way too easy. I'm seen them with worn looking bluing NIB in stores. I have a Stainless and am totally satisfied with it.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I briefly had an 'AL' model- lightweight frame, full size. The slide was blued- was covered in surface rust that supposedly happened during shipment.WLJ wrote:Only consistent problem I'm heard on the PT-1911 is that on the blued ones the bluing wears off way too easy. As said, if it's an older one you're better off. You will want to replace the safeties and the hammer- it has that stupid 'lock' on it that you stick a hex key into and twist on/off.
I really liked the pistol; felt like a quality piece apart form the finish. I would like to have another, but I never see that model anywhere.

Re: taurus 1911 yay or nay?
Ive heard mostly bad things about taurus semi autos. Ive heard that ria 1911s are far superior.
Off topic- does anyone know of a gun store in the louisville area that sells lower-medium ebd high cap 1911s?

If you're in Louisville check with 111 gunshop. If that fails check with centerfiresystems, they always seems to have a bunch of RIA 1911s.Phil_Osophy wrote:yeah. Like a para p14 . No double stack 1911s. Seven days for Creation, seven rounds for 1911. This is what God intended.

taurus 1911 yay or nay?
My local shop has a used para double stack 1911 that came with like 6 mags in the mid 600 range. Like $649.99 maybe? I say get a regular 1911 and buy some good mags. Hell get the 10 rounders.

haha i dont even have a seven rounder. All mine are 8 or 10.Mexican Kerry wrote:No double stack 1911s. Seven days for Creation, seven rounds for 1911. This is what God intended.
Really? I looked all over the net and keep seeing them for 800-1000. That would be a pretty resonable price. I have a para 1911 already. I have two chip mccormick 10 rounders. I like the 1911 as it is, but when it comes to semi autos, i like the highest ammo capacity possible. Maybe im just ocd. Pretty soon im going to sell the 1911 i have and look into getting a high cap model. Maybe someone with some experience in 1911s can tell me why that is or isnt a good idea?1fastmach1 wrote:My local shop has a used para double stack 1911 that came with like 6 mags in the mid 600 range.
