Auto Ordnance 1911

Post by BallisticBurrito » Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:38 pm

So I've been wanting to get a 1911 for AGES. I really wanted one last year when it was the 100th anniversary but the lack of a job obviously kept me from doing that. A few weeks ago I got started a major automobile manufacturer (might be fairly obvious) and have a nice income. I was oogling the Ruger SR1911 because I like Ruger and it looks like a decently priced 1911. However...they are nigh impossible to find (unless you feel like spending $200+ over street price for one.).

I was bumping around budsgunshop.com when I stumbled upon this: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/prod ... s_id/16100
Upon further research I found that they're also 100% made in the US and also the reviews seem pretty positive. And I can easily get over the fact that it's a Series 80 over Ruger's Series 70. And the fact that it's roughly $100 less than a Ruger, and that I can actually find these in stock, makes me feel even less guilty about being a horrible person that will probably be using some Wolf ammo (hey, I'm still poor).

Any thoughts on Auto Ordnance's 1911s?

(Also, I like parentheses.)

Haven't tried one although I've been tempted. If they were that price here I'd have bought one long ago (approx 700 here), but I'm not really up on pistol prices in the States. Looks like a decent enough reproduction of a GI pistol. Classic styling and its the design that was handed down to Moses by God Himself. A 1911 doesn't have to be expensive to be a good pistol. Another option for a GI replica is a Springfield. Never sell mine.

Heard good things since Kahr took over production. Have not owned one of theirs. Had a few older ones from before Kahr...meh. Never got attached. Still have one of the frames with a 22LR slide. All the others are gone from the collection though.

Be sure to keep us informed of how well it does if you get it. That is a nice price.

Though quick question..does anyone know if any gun stores in Louisville have it for roughly the same price?
I just don't want to drive 3 hours round trip or wait and pay for a FFL transfer if I can avoid it.

Welp...went to SharpMart on Preston..I won't be buying it from SharpMart..they have a $100 markup on it(looked over the guy's shoulder as he looked up the price) and they charge over $50 more than Buds does.

Anyone know of any places around that area that might have it for around $500?

I bought my RIA 1911 at Centerfire Systems in Versailles,KY. I looked at one in a local (No.KY) store and it was $110 higher than what I paid at CFS. I drove 150 miles round trip, used $18 in gas, but it was worth it.
Cutting grass is the price I gladly pay for not being cold.
