New 1911 Grip / Rail
Anyone seen this yet? Looks interesting. Apparently designed by the guy who designed the TAVOR. For $50 I think it would be cool to try out

I've not seen that but it is neat. I wanna know how it feels in the hand and is it held together by grip screws or what?

There's a short animated video at the link. The grip screws, then a bolt/nut at the front of the trigger guard and in the rail hold it together.

If you've got a 1911 and want to put a light on it, what other choice do you have that can be just as easily reverted back to factory form. I'd like to see how one feels.

The why is pretty obvious... Know your target and what lies beyond it. This and a light allows better target identification in the dark. Whether this is done the right way is up for you to decide.

The rail should have been up higher. Cant imagine itd be easy finding a holster for this. And some fingergrooves would have been a nice touch.

I like the concept. Im not a 1911 guy though. I could see if you already have one and want to add a rail...perfect solution without permanent effects.

If I were looking for a way to attach an accessory to my pistol, I'd go with one of two things: a railed frame or a drill/tap rail for the existing frame. "No permanent alterations" is a non-issue, if I needed a light it wouldn't be mounted on a WW1 Colt carried by Sgt. York. It would be on a modern (read: non collectible so who cares) pistol.
I think if this idea could be improved upon, it would be to use the rail section including the top grip screw section and the part that covers the front of the trigger guard. Other than that, I'd keep it really low pro (blend back into the standard grip shape). It would include an integrated grip shape to allow the use of the lower screw point. This would prevent rotation of the unit but would allow the grip profile to remain the same.
As a commenter on the linked page said, one issue would be use of available holsters. This method looks to be as bulky as say duct taping a Mag lite to the top of the slide.
But lets face it, pistoleers with a light usually only use it for posting pics taken with their iphones and don't really need a holster.
If you want a streamlined, effective 1911 light stay tuned and buy stock in MK Enterprises. You won't be disappointed.
