Star BM

Post by Harb » Thu Mar 06, 2014 10:46 am

I've already consulted Wyldman on this, so I wanted to get everyone else's take.

A friend has offered to sell me his Star BM 9mm (aka, the Commander sized 1911 clone that's actually very different from the 1911...) It's mint in the box with all of the original packaging and to his knowledge has never been fired. I have every plan to inspect it before I think about purchasing.

He wants $450. Not sure if it's a Spanish police model or commercial.

I'm hesitant. These things aren't being made anymore and spare parts would be a real problem if, on the off chance, something broke. Based on what I've researched, they're good guns, but spare mags alone cost over $40. (Hurry up and get perfected, 3D printing!)

Thoughts? If you've owned one of these, how did you like it?

Not bad guns. I had the full size model. Wasn't my favorite gun but still fun to shoot. Traded it for a Ruger P85 when the trigger spring broke.

They are fun guns to shot. I would check on that $450 price. I was thinking they in the sub $300 range. But I could be wrong.

Not sure if I'd pay that much for it, but to each their own. They aren't bad little pistols, they function, but as you stated parts aren't exactly plentiful and for $450 you could pick up a nice Gen3 G19 ;)

I don't think I would recommend you buy it for that unless you want to collect one in pristine condition. There are plenty used ones out there for sub 300 dollars.

I have a full size one of these in this same condition as OP stated and that is about what I would want for it to sell it. However, I sold my used full size one in December for $300.

I like them, they are good shooters. All magazines these days cost 30-40 it seems.

So it would be up to you if you want to pay big money for unused one. I wouldn't, I got mine more reasonable.

Already got one for regular carry. I'm looking to get a good, all-metal gun this time. There's a gun show in town next week, so my options are still pretty open.
