My new Hi Power
Got this in the mail last week, unfortunately haven't had time to test it out yet. A couple years ago I had another one, but it had to go in order to fund a 1911 purchase. Been regretting selling it, and been looking for a suitable replacement ever since.
Its nothing fancy, pretty basic and traditional P-35 type pistol. Not mint, it has a bit of minor pitting on the slide in a couple spots. Might play with it a bit and burn off the surplus 9mm I have and then sell it. We'll see. If its as good a shooter as the last one, it might stay. When I don't have a Hi Power I want one, when I get one I think about selling it.

Re: My new Hi Power
Part of reason for maybe selling is trying to fund raise for car project. Need chassis. Many guns on the block.

Re: My new Hi Power
The HP is one of the guns I *want* to love.
It has it all: great looks, innovative design, interesting history. It's also the favorite firearm of a couple of guys whose opinions on firearms I really respect (one of whom is a member of one of the few high-speed units that no one makes movies about).
But while everyone talks about how great it feels in the hand whenever I hold one in *my* hand it just doesn't feel like it belongs there.
Guess I'm just weird.

Re: My new Hi Power
I have been wanting one for a long time, been watching Cole Dist on Gunbroker. They have all kinds of them. I hope they come to the KCR MGS again this Fall shoot, I may pick one up.

Re: My new Hi Power
IMO its the best option for the guys that love wood , steel , and classic bluing , but are smart enough to never carry a 1911. I love the HP, love them stock, love them pimped, it truly was his best design to date short of the M2. Its everything a modern combat is and the looks of classic, if I wore a suit , a HP would be on the belt.

I'd agree. Too bad this one isn't an FN. Just did some research and it looks like its a FEG with FN markings. Who's a sucker? This guy.guncrank1 wrote:FN the best

Oh man that an'it right.
Let me find a importer and you can pay all the fees and duties and give it to Cranky and never worry about it again.

Sure. Just wait out by the road, I'll be right there.
Still going to try it out but it won't be a keeper.

Here is a crappy pic of my Austrian police marked FN HP shooter (the nicer one stays put away), but notice some of the markings. This pistol I think if I remember correctly was made in the mid-50's. Mine has the internal extractor.
Standard Belgium Proof Marks you may find:
E L G with a crown over it= final testing with heavy black powder
R with crown over it = pressure test
P.V with a lion over it = last test with smoke-free powder (MINE HAS THIS)
LETTER with a star over it = from the proof house of Liege(Belgium), denotes the controller of the manufacture. (MINE HAS H with a Star over it.)

Was the rear sight replaced? I thought the older models had the adjustable rear sights? I may be wrong.

Serial number, no proof marks, poor finish (machine marks), things like that. Internet searching and confirmation by a few knowledgeable Hi Power folks.Eireguy wrote:How did you figure out its a feg with fn markings?i had never heard of that & looked around, turns out those were made for mid-east countries.

Googled and there is a book on amazon for .99 kindle edition which is written on the FEG Hi Powers. Appears to show all kinds of pictures.
