My grandparents ALWAYS kept/keep their mags loaded for every gun they own. Some have been loaded for 50+ years and not shot very often. They all still function perfect. I also keep all loaded but mine get shot a lot. So lots of compression and decompression I have had to replace a few here and there. No scientific info here, just my personal experience. I've never stretched a mag spring to see what it does, but it only works so long on a click type pen and then you have to restretch it to get it to start working again.
