Just your preference. I have a 99 powerstroke. I've been hesitant to do any kind of tuning or bolting any performance parts onto it since it's my dd.

It is pretty hard to hurt a 7.3 with only a tune (my truck is my daily and it never comes off my max effort tune and it has 250k on the clock). The stock injectors are to small to let enough diesel in to the cylinder to make enough horse power to hurt anything. Where you could run into issues is exhaust gas temperature. Such as towing in a higher hp tune a steep grade can push you past 1250* and that starts to hurt pistons and turbos are typically the first to go. A 4-5in exhaust will really help to bring those in check. If your running a k&n air filter I recommend you check and make sure its not leaking around the air box there the number one thing that hurts the 7.3. they let dirt in and eat up the turbo. Feel free to txt or call(270 454 0683) im always up for talking about diesel trucks.

Is your truck a e99 or late?

Good to know. I'll have to check that on my 2000 7.3 with K&N cold air kit. 4" turbo back Magnaflow is only other mod to it. It needs a tuner real bad! I'm pretty sure it does...haha How much for the SCT flash tuner? It's 6sp manual.

Typically the cold air kits are okay but just the replacement filters are terrible(99%of the time) I will pm you a price for the sct(map379 I will beat that price if its what you want) but there are much better options out there. A ts style 6 position chip(6 tunes in one chip) gives you much better tuning(not just hp but quality tunes) and will cost you about the same. A good 6 position chip will run you $295, also there is a 17 position chip(17 tunes) it is update able via usb for $425. I don't carry these but there defiantly the better option for the 7.3 and I can point you in the right direction on where to get them.

Late 99 and I've been thinking about the 6 position ts performance chip, but I'd like to do some gauges first. I guess a cold air kit (or tyvek) and a better exhaust than my straight pipe should be in order first. My truck is also a 6 speed.

I strongly recommend php for chips. And gauges are a must, autometer for a good set or glow shift for a cheap set. Air intake I would do a 6637 if your not familiar with it I can go into depth it is good cheap option(what I run) . A straight pipe will be fine but if your like me you will want something better. Just so everyone knows I can only post Aluminum advertised price (map) on public forums but a phone call, txt or pm and you can get the KAC deal price.

Sounds good. I'll have to get with you on one of them. I sure as hell don't want a 17 position chip. I would never figure that much shit out...haha
