Lever guns

So I've got my eye on a lever carbine. It would be my second lever gun. My Henry 22 has a standard lever and this carbine has a large loop lever.

I don't intend to shoot with fur trappers gloves on so I don't see a need for the large lever. I'm wondering how it changes cocking the gun. I'm not talking about spin cocking here. Just how does the large lever change the feel or function of cycling the lever smoothly while maintaining your locked shoulder position and sight picture.

Should I be concerned about the lever style at all? Is putting a standard lever on if needed, a non gunsmith type change?
