M1 Garand Oddity

Post by ssracer » Fri Sep 06, 2019 8:11 pm

I noticed something was strange about my CMP M1 Garand.then assembled the spring clip on the upper hand guard sticks out on both sides. Started looking into it and it appears my barrel, which is a Springfield Armory from Feb of 1955, is missing the slots on either side that the clip is supposed to snap into. This even has the Garand groups that I’m in on FB stumped.

My barrel:

It still snaps on securely enough that it doesn’t come off. Makes removal a hell of a lot easier..lol
