Indeed!! The Park Rangers let me look at the one in the archives downstairs at the Gettysburg park a couple years ago. Would love to have one since it is the family name. Last one I saw for sale on the private market was like 100k dollars. Another I ran across was because idiot put one up for sale on Ebay and they deleted the auction and so he started taking the rifle apart and selling pieces off of it. A civil war dealer saw it and bought the entire gun except the ebayer had sold the lock mechanism. The dealer had a repro one but begged the ebayer to give him the name of who bought it but they wouldn't.
This would be my holy grail of guns.

96.00 dollars per rifle , wow that was expense. I think Spencer's Carbines where 24.00 per rifle.
That neat you got to look at one Dave, did you get to hold it?
I think a Confederste sharpshooter supposedly made a 1/4mile shot at a Union general during a battle.
Or at least so the story goes.

yes they make you wear gloves of course. It was in great shape but they could not attribute it to that battle though just based on serial number.
