Don't worry, I'll keep you away from the adult beverages and make sure to keep your sippy cup filled with pedialyte. As for they psycho therapy, I charge now to mess up people's minds.

I have three CMP Garands 30.06 and all are good shooters. About six months ago I picked up a Garand in 308 from National Ordinance.

Just make sure all your paperwork is up to date if you make a road trip. My dad thought all of his stuff was together, but he was not a member of a CMP club. He was lucky for around $20 he joined some association at the North Store and was able to get his Garand.

You can also pick up ammo at the stores. You want to shoot 150 grain ammo through a Garand. If you shoot larger grain modern hunting ammo it can bend the op rod.

Ok, so is there anything that a newbie should look for that are red flags or anything special while picking one of these up? Example, a small run of non desired parts that were used for a certain batch or something.

Do a little research on the web, not hard to learn. Most parts are good. If not, you can easily get replacements. Expensive parts of a garand are the receiver and barrel of course. Receivers from 200 to 600 for general condition and decent barrels are 200 to 300 for general. A lot more can be spent of course. Operating rods are about 150 to whatever you want to spend to match up to the gun. Bolts from 50 to 150 usually but more if you want rarer markings. Same with other parts, if you just want functional then those are a lot cheaper than specific rare makers and dates. Throat Erosion and Muzzle Erosion are usually key points to look at, just do some research again. Anything from 1 to 5 will usually be found. I would bet that CMP has them measured already and tagged as such. Lower number is better. I would probably only want a 2 to 3 or less erosion at either end for a shooter .

Thanks!! I've always wanted one of these. I will start looking around for info. Sad thing is with my luck, I will pick out the only one in the whole lot that needs parts that were made on a Monday, but all I can get are parts produced on all the other days. That one oddball rifle.

Typically they will gauge them for you so like Dave mentioned get the best barrel you can find. The other stuff you can swap out. New stock kits are around $150.

My Garands have a ME between 2-3 (ME= Muzzle Erosion)

On the used market you will see folks put a bullet in the muzzle to show wear. If the muzzle touches the brass of a case move on. :)

I miss mine. It was a good shooter, but being a reman it had no history or markings. I really want to go pick one of these out

I might be in for a trip to pick one up. Could fit 4 or 5 more people in my Expedition.

We are about in the middle of both places. A little less than 5 1/2 hours to the OH store and about 6 1/2 hours to AL store.

The OH store looks like it's just east of Toledo, off I-75. Whenever we go to MI, that's the way we go. Although, it seems like a guy told me once that the AL store is bigger with more guns. IDK?!?

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.
