I've been told by people with actual knowledge of the CMP Garands to stick with a service grade for a good shooter.

I would spend the extra 100 bucks to get out of Field Grade personally and into a Service Grade.
Probably screwed up the quote, but what Dave said^^

I'd take a M14/M1A over the Garand anyday... Nothing against them, I just love an M1A.

I try not to show my ignorance on here to much, but I thought the M1 Garand was offered in .308 along with .30 carbine and 30.06

CMP redid a few in 308 but never any made for use by the factory that I know of. The 276 Pedersen was made for a very short run.

You can thank Bugout Doug for the switch from 276 to 30-06
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

So, I need to join a group, then with all paperwork take a trip up to Ohio. Sounds like a road trip. Honestly, I don't care which manufacturer, I would just be happy to own a piece of history.

.30 carbine was in the .30 carbine...smaller, different weapon meant for other than front line infantry

Some are confused by the fact they were both designated M1s
M1 Carbine - Carbine in .30 Carbine
M1 Garand - "Battle" Rifle in .276 then in 30-06. Some later in 7.62x51 aka 308

But also in WW-II you also had other M1s

M1 bayonet, for the M1 Garand
M1 chemical mine
M1 Combat Car
M1 Armored car
M1 Helmet
M1 mortar
M1 rocket launcher, a bazooka variant
M1 Thompson submachine gun in .45 ACP
M1 90mm Gun
M1 flamethrower

Don't worry, I'll keep you away from the adult beverages and make sure to keep your sippy cup filled with pedialyte. As for they psycho therapy, I charge now to mess up people's minds.

I sense RENTAL VAN

only issue is that these are military facilities right? What do you do with your CCDW while entering? (never mind, only north one is on Camp Perry)
