kyswede's Swedes

Post by kyswede » Wed Mar 07, 2012 11:18 pm

I figured I would show everyone how I got my name. Here are my Swedish Mausers. From top to bottom: M96 Oberndorf 1899, M96 Oberndorf 1900, M96 Carl Gustafs 1916, M96 Carl Gustafs 1917, and my favorite M38 Carl Gustafs 1900.

The M96 long rifles were made in Oberndorf, Germany in 1899 and 1900 only. I have one of each year. I forget which, but one is still in cosmo and has not been fired in the 23 years I have had it. The M38 was originally a long rifle made in 1900 and was factory modified to M38 before WW2. Barrel shortened from 29" to 24" and sights changed.

That's awesome Swede! I've always liked older guns. I want a few when I have space to store them.

I'm seeing a pattern here. Those rifles look to be in great shape.

The M38 is my favorite shooter.Next is the M96 1917. Someone ground the cocking piece on an angle, so it has almost a hair-trigger. Great for target work, but not for hunting I suppose. If I could only have 1 rifle, it would be a Swede.

Please forgive my ignorance. What caliber are those rifles? 7x57?

6.5x55, uses a .264" diameter bullet. The Swedes are said to be the most accurate of all the Mausers.

Thanks. I don't know much about the older rifles. I know what ammo mosins take and that's about it.

My DIL prob. weighs 120 dripping wet. She has fired 2 of my Swedes over 100 shots in about an hour.
