Subsonic .308 loads?
My Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle is quickly becoming a favorite--it's tons of fun to shoot.
I've been giving serious consideration to using subsonic ammo for pest control...and fun. (OK, mostly fun.) Problem is commercial subsonic ammo is very pricey...and I don't reload.
I've toyed with the idea of picking up a Lee Loader in the past, but I decided it would be much too much hassle (not to mention too time-consuming) to produce ammo in any quantity at all. Nevertheless, it might be just the thing for something like this. I wouldn't make more than a dozen rounds or so at a time, and probably less than 100 rounds a year.
What do you think...am I nuts? If not, has anybody here worked up a good load? There is a lot of data available on the Internet, but I've come to doubt most things I read posted by strangers on gun forums.
Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

Yes you are nuts for not loading your own ammo.

I use a Lee single stage Challenger press. Yes it takes time to do reloads but your loads are way better than factory!
I just finished 300 rounds of 223 and I wasn't in a hurry to do it. Started on Thursday decapping and tumbling brass, trimmed and primed on Friday and finished loading today.
All in all I probably have over 10 hours into doing this, but I enjoy it as well.

BTW. NEVER trust load data you see on the internet. Buy a reloading manual!!!
Some goobers post up some insane load mixes and it may ruin your gun.

I trust the data I get off the web. But it's coming from the powders online manual. Not from a forum.

Re: Subsonic .308 loads?
In a bolt action rifle, .308 subsonics make sense for use with a suppressor. I know of no subsonic .308 load that will reliably cycle any semi-auto rifle. I pursued a reliable and accurate subsonic load for a long, long time and never was comfortable with the result. This is why I built a .300 BLK rifle and ammo.
If you learn to reload properly, you will find that tailored loads for a given rifle are cheaper, more accurate, and consistant.
