With an 18" barrel, the Predator 308 weighs 6.2#. I fired 3 shots unsuppressed and the recoil was stout. I put the suppressor on (weighs 20 oz.) and felt recoil was about 1/2. I plan to shoot this mostly suppressed. I thought about getting the 300 BLK since I have a 8" pistol and a 16" carbine. But I have wanted 308 bolt rifle for a few years.

Finally got my M40a1 replica done. Dicking around at the 100 yd range when I was working on zeroing the scope.

I'm definitely the limiting factor here, I knew when I was pulling a shot, and the target didn't lie. When I don't shit the bed this rifle puts holes on holes.

And my Savage .17hmr M40 trainer haha. just put the Weaver T10 on it.

Very nice MK

17 is kinda pricey to shoot for a trainer. Lol

Cheaper than .308, but yes I agree. I bought the same rife for my 9 yr old this summer as he had outgrown his Rascal. His is a lefty and it was a really good shooter so I wanted one of my own.

Hey all, not sure if I posted this one yet, put together another rifle this winter. Another 700 in .308, was going for more of an original M40 with this one. The stock isn't right, I couldn't find an original stock so I ordered a walnut Boyd's with raised comb but they weren't interested in doing any custom profiling for me. Still hunting for old Rem wood to swap on.

Hi Lux repro M40 3-9 with tombstone/rangefinder on old base with Leupold rings, and a varmint profile barrel crowned to original spec. Early 700 trigger rebuilt, nice 3 lb crisp break (with early style tombstone safety). Bolt shroud shortened a la early models. Action gone over, and whole thing cerakoted.

Finished off with Wichita swivels and an old Garand sling. Should have done a few things differently: should have gotten him to get rid of all the modern markings on the receiver and had a more complete stamping done on the barrel. Oh well, when I burn this one out I'll get it done better. My own fault, the smith did a great job with the info I gave him.

It's my new truck gun, under the back seat wherever I go.

Beautiful! I love old 700's. A 700 in 22-250 probably from the 60's (I need to see if I can date it from the ser. #) of my Papaw's was the 1st centerfire I remember shooting. When I was around 7-8 years old he had me bench shooting it at 400 yards at letters on a milk jug. I fell in love with it and asked him if I could have it when he decided to get rid of it. He gave it to me about 25-30 years later a year or two before he passed away. One of my favorite guns.

Its nice to shoot, a lot lighter than my a1. Feel it in the shoulder more though.

The Boyd's stock is decent quality, it's just not right for the rifle. One of these days I might pull it off and try reprofiling the comb and forend so it is a little closer to an original.

I have an old 70's Varmint Special in .308 that I picked up for my oldest daughter for Christmas, basically the exact same rifle the Marines had in the M40 but blued. It would have made a good donor for this project but it was too nice (and it's not really mine anyway).

It's currently built as a lighter version of my a1, with a McMillan stock and a Bushnell Elite on it. I wanted to put my Weaver T10 on it for her to keep with the vintage vibe as the Marines did use the T10 on some transitional rifles, but she wanted the newer scope. I think she was scared off by the AO and said it was too complicated.

And I had a new .223 built this winter using an old 700 action with a new 24" Benchmark barrel. Bedded into a McMillan a5, with a Bushnell Match Pro, Harris bipod and a small rear squeeze bag.

Image

Image

This was a quick group of 10 at 300 yds, shooting FGMM 69 gr Matchkings. Had to hold .5 mil for the wind , -8 C that afternoon. Group was 1.205", so under 1/2 moa. Pretty happy with this rifle so far, other than it weighs 18 lbs without a mag in it.

So many different units of measurement in this post......

Yeah I like them. I bought one of the newer 5-30 versions last year but prefer the original 6-24. Nicer reticle and better feel in the turret.
