AK mag change method I hadn't seen before

Post by WLJ » Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:25 pm

Using the 2nd mag to bump the mag release, seems to speed thing up a little.

Fast forward to 12:35 to see what I am referring to.

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Fairly commonly taught mag change method for the AK. I prefer using my hand and having a mag coupler. All about what you practice I guess.

If I'm shooting an AK and the mag runs out, I throw it down and pick up an AR

Your loss. An AK is a valuable tool to have on hand. In most any scenario.

I don't care for that method because I believe that one should keep positive retention of all gear. (including empty mags)
There are many reasons for this, however primarily it is because you never want to leave usable gear for the "enemy" to use.
