AK47 or AK74?

Post by AErrorist » Sat May 26, 2012 8:29 pm

I think I want to dabble in the AK game for a little bit. But I'm not sure which way I want to go. I do think I'd like to start with a Saiga and convert it myself, so I can have a proper Russian built AK. But I'm open to suggestions. I'd like to start off reasonably priced though, as I intend on customizing it to my tastes.

Also, suggestions where to pick one up with some prices would be helpful, where the best deals are and what not.

Since your asking the question...If its your first one id go 47.

if you know which you want or are leaning one way or the other go that way. I doubt youll reget either purchase.

Only if you limit yourself to an AR-10/15. AR-18/180/180B have folding stocks.

AK47 > AK74

Shoot a concrete block with both and see which one shatters it.

Yes the 7.62x39 will shatter a concrete block better than 5.45 but bear in mind the 7.62x39 was replaced by the 5.45 for front line service starting way back in 1974. The 5.45 was found to be more effective against humans, they're the ones shooting back. There's a reason why almost every first world country has moved away from 7.62x39 to the 5.45 and/or 5.56 and it's not because they look better. There's a lot more to wound ballistics than bullet size.

Personally, I don't want to get hit by either one of them.
