Re: 1st AK build advice
Okay guys...I just ordered a High Standard 1-9 1/2 twist crome lined barrel. That should my last needed part before assembly and coating. Hopefully in the next month to two months I'll be firing this thing! woohoo!

Re: 1st AK build advice
if you want, I can help you build it. I have plenty of stuff at my house... actually, everything we would need.....even a crappy milling machine, just small enough for the basement and all of the pressing stuff... I will however stop at the assembly... the finish is up to you but I would like to see your first build be a form fitting success since I kind of had a part in prodding you toward an AK.....

Re: 1st AK build advice
I have to say, this is the most pain in the arse AK I have built! it seems that nothing is going right at all! first brownells sent the wrong barrel then after installing the new one we started pressing the rear sight block on. All was going great until it just decided to stop! wtf?! It was very well lubed, clean and free from crap that could get in the way. I dunno..... going to put the real tools on it and get that thing done. What I am worried about though, is that if the first surface is inconsistent, what if the others are too?..... at least, those only need an inch or so of real-estate.

BIG BIG thanks Rob and man I'm sorry as hell to be putting you through this. This thing has been a huge pain in the ass... Maybe it will make for the sweetest AK ever and if I do get into putting more together it should make them seem like a cake walk...haha

Re: 1st AK build advice
It will be my first AK and I seriously doubt my last, I don't see me ever getting rid of it. I'm sure it will good to go to Armor-Hyde soon enough and then this beast will be done. I have a few pict's a long the way and will load them on my laptop and post them when I get a chance and a finished product when I get it back from coating also. I'm excited as hell to get some mags running through this thing.

Re: 1st AK build advice
Well I have a beautifully operating AK as of this past Sunday after some more Hi Standard barrel issues... I eased off 10-15 rounds and then dumped a 40 rounder and did another later in the day Sunday. It shoots beautiful! I was starting to lose the excitement of this build with all the trouble this thing has given but after dumping 2 40 rounders through it the excitement is back with a vengeance! I would have to say the last time I was this excited about a gun was 32 years ago receiving my first gun for my 4th birthday...haha I am almost 100% certain I'm a AK guy all the way!!! haha I dropped it off to Devin tonight and hopefully with in a month or so I'll have my first and DEFINITELY not my last AK finished and back in hand... Once again HUGE thanks to Rob at SouthernArmorment and the FF's for having this awesome site and sponcers!

Re: 1st AK build advice
Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to my first AR also. Having put a few rounds through both now, I still think I'm an AK guy... I got enough gun love to go around. Even my least favorite gun I ever shot I loved shooting...hahaguncrank1 wrote:Good for you

Go to the app store and download an app called Tapatalk. It makes posting pictures really easy as you don't have to deal with photo bucket or anything like that
